The Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Valdocco, Turin, is preparing for its annual celebration in honor of Don Bosco’s Madonna. In 2026, the festivities are particularly significant as they coincide with the Solemnity of Pentecost, shifting the formal liturgical celebration to Monday, May 25.
Highlights of the Celebration
The program, curated by the Basilica’s Rector, Fr. Michele Vivano, includes several key events:
- Floral Tribute (May 23, 3:00 p.m.): A tradition held in collaboration with the Turin Fire Department, featuring a floral offering to the Archangels Michael and Gabriel on the bell domes and to Our Lady on the central dome.
- Virtual Tour Launch (May 23, 8:15 p.m.): The Basilica will officially unveil its new virtual tour experience.
- Night Marathon of Prayer: Returning due to last year’s success, this 12-hour prayer initiative begins at 7:00 p.m. on May 23 with First Vespers led by the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, and runs through the morning of May 24.
- Key Liturgies: * Bishop Alessandro Giraudo will preside over the first vigil Mass on May 23 at 6:00 p.m.
- Cardinal Roberto Repole, Archbishop of Turin, will celebrate the main Mass on Sunday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m.
- Youth Celebration & Procession: Fr. Fabio Attard will preside over the Salesian Youth Movement Mass on Sunday, May 24. Following the service, the Rector Major and Cardinal Roberto Repole will lead the traditional procession through the streets of Valdocco.
