he theme of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Barcelona—”Raise Our Eyes”—finds its most literal and spiritual expression at the Salesian Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Tibidabo. As Fr. Joan Lluís Playà noted, this basilica stands as a high-altitude sanctuary, a testament to a divine calling received by Don Bosco himself during his final visit to the city in 1886.
Don Bosco was inspired to build this temple to promote devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus after receiving an unexpected donation of land. Today, the Basilica serves as a beacon of faith, mirroring the spiritual work Don Bosco championed throughout his life. For the Salesian community, this site is more than an architectural wonder; it is a call to look upward toward the Sacred Heart, nourishing our hope and practicing active charity. As we continue our work in the Indonesian context, let the example of Tibidabo inspire us to elevate our vision and dedicate our efforts to the young with renewed zeal.
